LASEK Eye Surgery

LASEK (or Laser Epithelial Keratomileusis) is a form of laser eye surgery that is more associated with PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) than LASIK. In order to loosen the edges of the flap so it can easily be pulled up with a miniscule tool especially designed for this procedure, an alcohol-treated pad is placed over the eye for about a half-hour. When the flap is raised, the corneal material underneath is carefully reshaped with the use of an Excimer laser, which takes probably less than a minute. Afterward, the flap is replaced where it will quickly heal.
